About CROMA

The History of CROMA

John L. Montgomery, D.O, M.D., and two of his osteopathic colleagues had a vision. A vision to improve the health care system in Costa Rica thru the establishment of unlimited practice privileges for osteopathic physicians in Costa Rica, and the promotion of educational experiences for medical students in Latin America. This led to the establishment of the Costa Rica Osteopathic Medical Society (CROMA) in 2001.

After living and practicing in Costa Rica for over fifteen years, Dr. Montgomery was committed to promoting the mutual benefits of practicing medicine in Costa Rica. A well known speaker at seminars on living, retiring, and/or setting up a business in Costa Rica, Dr. Montgomery was also instrumental in working with local governmental agencies to bring U.S. businesses such as Lovable (over 1200 employees) and Intel (2,500 employees) to Costa Rica.

After the formal creation of CROMA, Dr. Montgomery contacted the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) regarding their intent to build a network of between 250 and 300 osteopathic physicians. The AOA invited him to attend their June 2003 meeting in Chicago, Illinois. This meeting of osteopathic physicians and representatives from around the world met to discuss how they could take the osteopathic profession into the international arena. Dr. Montgomery attended the meeting and expressed his commitment to having Costa Rica lead the way in becoming the first Latin American country to honor the osteopathic profession.

Convention

Each year, CROMA holds a four-day convention with CME credit, held in conjunction with one of the osteopathic medical schools in the U.S.A. The next convention is set for February 2006 in Costa Rica. More detailed information to follow as it becomes available. Vacation packages are available for those choosing to further explore the wonderful tropical paradise of Costa Rica.
